National workshop on Copyright, Creativity and Development held

A two-day National Workshop on Copyright, Creativity and Development was held on March 3, 2015 to raise awareness about copyright registrations and protection of related rights among relevant stakeholders.

Dr. Ranajit Kumar Biswas, Secretary of Cultural Affairs Ministry, inaugurated the workshop at National Theatre seminar room of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The workshop was jointly organized by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs of Bangladesh, the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

M Nabirul Islam, Registrar of Bangladesh Copyright Office moderated the event. Yoshito Nakajima, Deputy Director of Japan Copyright Office International Division and Yui Ema, Associate Officer of WIPO also attended and addressed the stakeholders at the event.

M Manzur Rahman, Joint Secretary of Cultural Affairs Ministry, presented a paper on ‘Recent Growth and Development of International Legal Framework of Copyright and Related Rights in Bangladesh’ in the workshop while copyright expert from Bangkok Nic Garnett held discussions on ‘Overview of Copyright and Related Rights: Concepts and Principles.’


The two-day long workshop was attended by eminent members of literary and creative field.
